|a This book is the first attempt at quantifying the size of the Malaysian maritime economy by using input-output (I/0) analysis. The contribution of the maritime sector to Malaysia's gross national product is larger than the 18 per cent presented in this study if the contribution from the shipping and port sectors are fully accounted for. This contribution has made Malaysia once again a maritime nation in international trade. It is the purpose of this book to promote marine research and make people aware of the significance of the sea.
